A small military dependents’ village established in 1959 for officers of the army’s 18th Corps and 2nd Recruit Training Regiment near Jincheng New Village in Hsinchu. The original bamboo homes were rebuilt with brick walls and timber beams after typhoons nearly destroyed them in 1961. The defence ministry and a private builder later redeveloped the site as Century Xincheng (世紀鑫城), a mixed-use complex with several hundred units reserved as public youth housing.
