The precise identity of this building is subject to debate, but it seems likely it was the original village office for the district, built in the late Shōwa period. In the post-war era the building served as Guiren Police Station until operations relocated to a newer building to the north, after which it sat idle for years. It was renovated and reopened in 2010 as Guiren Art Museum (歸仁美學館), with a former detention cell preserved for educational purposes.
