An obelisk in the overgrown hills behind Fulong Station (福隆車站) in Gongliao, inscribed with the date March 1st, 1947. It was allegedly built by troops of the Keelung Fortress Command for a comrade named Wang Wujia during the 228 Incident. The highly controversial author Zhang Ruotong (張若彤) identifies Wang as a mainlander soldier beaten to death by a crowd at Badu Station (八堵車站) that day, the killing that preceded the reprisal of March 11th, when soldiers from the Aodi (澳底) garrison shot the railway workers commemorated by the Badu Railway Station 228 Monument. Almost everything else is disputed: a fortress casualty register reportedly lists Wang as a cook attacked on March 3rd at a place named Nanya (南雅), nobody knows whether anyone lies buried beneath the stone, and the obelisk form has led some to suspect a Japanese colonial era monument recut for the purpose. Access to the site requires pushing through the overgrowth to the site; there is no trail, and the site is not cleaned up for public viewing.
