This is the site of the original landing of Prince Kitashirakawa Yoshihisa during the invasion of Taiwan in 1895. After the prince perished in Tainan a monument (澳底御上陸紀念碑) was built on this site in 1896, and it was promoted as a pilgrimage site throughout the Japanese colonial era. It was destroyed after the war and, in 1975, the base of the monument was repurposed for the current monument to anti-Japanese resistance.
