Capital Cinema was likely built sometime in the late 1930s or 1940s in the old downtown area of Bangkok. Over the years it was renamed several times and may have also been known as New Capital (นิวแคปปิตอล) and later Charoenkrung Theatre (เจริญกรุงเธียเตอร์). It finally closed down in 2006 after spending several years screening mainly adult films. Not long thereafter it was renovated into an electronics shopping center, leaving almost no trace of its original function.
