Yongjing Animal Spirit Monument (永靖獸魂碑) - Spectral Codex

A second-generation monument at the corner of Yong’an Street (永安街) and Wenjian Street (文建街), site of a former Japanese colonial era slaughterhouse. The original monument, estimated to date from after 1931, has been lost; the current stone stele (洗石子) was erected in the mid-1970s and rebuilt again in 1986. The slaughterhouse was demolished in 2003 after operations shifted to Xihu, but the monument was retained. A mural nearby by local artist Jiang Hongming (蔣鴻銘) depicts traditional ceremonies at the stele.
