大南庄蔗苗養成所

An agricultural research center in Xinshe, Taichung, established by the Governor-General’s Office in 1913 to breed and distribute sugarcane seedlings, the institution for which Baileng Canal was built in 1932. Under ROC administration its work broadened to maize, sorghum, and horticultural stock, and it now operates as the Seed Improvement and Propagation Station (種苗改良繁殖場) under the Ministry of Agriculture. The former seedling office and its exhibition hall were designated historic buildings in 2017; thirty hectares planted with flowers in 2005 became the Xinshe Sea of Flowers (新社花海). There is a small museum on site as well as old staff dormitories, open to the public after signing in with the guard at the front gate.
