A concrete pillar erected on September 23rd, 1937, in Wufeng to honour police inspector Mizuno Giichi (水野義一), five patrolmen, and four guards who served on the Indigenous frontier during the Japanese colonial era. Mizuno was wounded on May 15th, 1913, when a landmine exploded while he was overseeing its burial near the Takonan Frontier Militia Supervisory Office (タコナン隘勇監督所), and he died three days later. Why the monument was not raised until 24 years afterward remains unexplained. It stands on the wooded slope behind the Zhulin Branch of Huayuan Elementary School (花園國小竹林分校), where the county cultural bureau re-erected it on a new base after it was found toppled.
