Remnants of reclaimed land off the coast of Taixi, Yunlin, originally intended for an industrial park in the 1990s. Environmental groups protested the development of the sensitive coastal ecosystem for heavy industry and successfully dissuaded several companies from going ahead with the project. What was left remained idle for many years, landing it on a prominent list of “mosquito halls” in Taiwan, but the island now operates a vast solar power plant. There is almost certainly no access for the public.
