A recreation hall for the workers of Ruisan Mining Company (瑞三鑛業公司), whose headquarters stood downriver in Ruifang. The company spent a million New Taiwan dollars converting a run-down building for the purpose, keeping miners’ dormitories on the ground floor and giving the upper storey over to meetings, birthday parties, singing contests, and film screenings. Minister of Economic Affairs Li Kwoh-ting (李國鼎) presided over the opening on March 10th, 1968. Once mining ceased at Houtong the hall passed into community use for weddings and funerals, and as an emergency shelter, but nowadays seems derelict.
