A small coal mine initially established in 1918 as a branch of Keelung Coal Mine Co. (基隆炭礦株式會社) and formally registered in 1938. In the post-war era it was operated by Jian Zhangli (簡杖梨), a rice merchant turned mining investor who developed several mines around Ruifang. Annual output in the early 1960s ranged from 10,000 to 30,000 tonnes, most of it trucked westward to fuel the North Thermal Power Plant (北部火力發電廠) at Badouzi (八斗子). Jian, a devout Christian, also funded the neighboring church of the same name, completed in 1962 and attended by miners and employees of Shen’ao Power Plant. All that remains of the mine, later renamed Rongxing Coal Mine (榮興煤礦), is a pit at ground level with water seeping out.
