Ānlè (安樂) is a district in northwestern Keelung, encompassing the hills and coastline west of the city center. The Dawulun Fort (大武崙砲台), a national monument originally built during the Qing dynasty era and extensively redeveloped under Japanese rule guards the western approach to the harbor. The Liu Mingchuan Railway Tunnel (劉銘傳隧道), completed in 1890, is the oldest in Taiwan. The hillside Laodagong Temple (開基老大公廟), famous for its ceremonial opening of the “gate to the underworld”, is a center of Keelung’s renowned Ghost Month traditions.
