Completed in Puyan, Changhua, in 1935, Puyan Baojia Office (埔鹽保甲事務所) is a former office of the hokō system of community policing dating back to the Japanese colonial era. It was registered as a historic building in 2005 but awaits restoration. As of 2025 steel support rods have been installed to keep it from collapsing and the roof is enclosed with plastic sheeting but it is otherwise left to the elements. Some part of the original Puyan Police Station (埔鹽分駐所) might also exist in the alleyways behind the station, or perhaps this has already been demolished.
An outline of the emblem of the ROC police force can still be seen over the entrance.
The left side of the building has a severe crack running down from the roofline. Also note the knob-and-tube wiring.
From this angle the concrete base for the old ROC police emblem looks like a later addition. Perhaps the original emblem remains behind it?
A police car provides a sense of scale. The office is quite modest in size.
From this vantage point Shunze Temple can be seen across the road.
A glimpse inside the disused office.
The body of the building is partly shielded by plastic weatherproofing.
