Built in 1815 with surplus funds from the rebuilding of Lukang Tianhou Temple, this shrine was jointly supported by the Eight Guilds (鹿港八郊) of Lukang. During the early Japanese colonial era it briefly housed a language institute before that operation moved to the Changhua Confucian Temple in 1897. A controversial 2004 restoration drew criticism from local calligraphers and conservators for departing from traditional methods, and the rebuilt complex was found to be deteriorating again by 2016.
