Established in 1918 as Shinchiku-za (新竹座), the successor to a previous performance venue destroyed in a fire. The name was changed to Shinchiku-gekijō (新竹劇場) around 1935, when the business was sold, and the theater was damaged during World War 2. It reopened in 1946 with its modern name, and continued operating until around 1980, after which it was demolished.
