A Japanese-style wooden dormitory surviving from the Hayashida Immigrant Village (林田移民村) in Fenglin, one of several planned settlements established on the east coast for Japanese migrants during the Japanese colonial era. Founded in 1914, the village centered on the Hayashida Elementary School (林田小學校), forerunner of today’s Darong Elementary School (大榮國小), and this wooden house served as a residence for the school’s principal and teachers at different times. Registered as a historic building in 2012, it is distinguished by a roof composed of three gabled sections of differing size.
