Founded in 1753 within the grounds of Shoutian Temple (受天宮), at the time the principal Mazu temple of Douliu. Longmen was one of the most academically prolific institutions in central Taiwan, producing dozens of degree-holding scholars between 1760 and 1894. Both academy and temple were demolished by the Japanese authorities in 1937 or 1938 during the Kōminka movement (皇民化運動) against Han religious practice, and the temple’s deities and land deeds were dispersed for safekeeping among local Mazu associations. Shoutian Temple was eventually rebuilt at a new site on Zhuangjing Road from 1973 onward; the academy, having no successor institution, was not. It was originally located in the vicinity of Douliu Roundabout but the precise footprint is uncertain.
