The dismembered remains of a grand old country manor and garden can still be found in between newer developments on the north side of old Dalin. This was the estate of Jiāng Wénwèi (江文蔚), Dalin’s first township chief (1920—1929). Built in 1928, the complex included a Chinese courtyard residence with Tatsuno-style (辰野式) red and white brickwork, plus extensive gardens (省園) with an artificial lake and octagonal pavilion. In the post-war era the land was sold off and redeveloped as descendants of the Jiang family migrated elsewhere.
