Officially established in October 2020, the Liji Badlands Geopark is one of Taiwan’s five major geoparks and the first in Taitung County. The badlands terrain is formed by mudstone created during the collision of the Philippine Sea Plate and Eurasian Plate. The park features a trail for visitors to explore the distinctive landscape. As of 2025 the site may be closed to the public due to damage from recent earthquakes in the area. It is also known as Liji Moon World (利吉月世界) after the more popular attraction in rural Kaohsiung.
