A century-old cinema down a small laneway in Bangkok

Prince Rama, alternately styled Prince Theatre, was established as a casino in the bustling Bang Rak district of Bangkok in 1912. It was repurposed for use as a cinema in 1917 and continued to operate into the new millennium, although it became notorious for screening adults films by the late 1980s. It finally closed sometime in the late 2000s but after several years of abandonment the structure was revitalized and converted into a boutique hotel in 2018. When I visited in June 2018 the original projectors were on display and visitors were welcome to enter and take a look around. The hotel closed in February 2025, leaving the old theater in limbo yet again.
