Amorphan Rama was a second-run theater with a capacity of 924 seats established on the north side of Bangkok in 1972. It went out of business sometime in early 2007. Parts of the building have been repurposed by various small businesses but the theater hall itself remains mostly intact, albeit with the seats removed.
Another look at the old cinema.
I visited this old theater in 2019 without expecting to see anything of the interior. Very few derelict theaters in the Bangkok metropolitan area are readily accessible to curious outsiders. Those that are become shelters for the disadvantaged. This case was no exception; an old man had taken up residence in the theater hall, sorting the detritus of the surrounding market. But in this case he was friendly and, upon seeing my camera, gestured for me to come inside and take a look around. Lighting conditions were poor but I appreciate being able to survey conditions inside this old theater, which has certainly seen better days.
Spirit house (ศาลพระภูมิ) and a small marquee sign for The Play Club on the side of the theater building.
