Erected in 1937, this stone monument commemorates the friendship between local pineapple magnate Xu Tiande (許天德) and Tōyama Mitsuru (頭山滿), founder of the Japanese ultra-nationalist group, Kokuryū-kai (黒龍会). The front face bears the inscription Plant Love (植物愛) by Tōyama, while Xu authored the text on the reverse side. The monument stands as a testament to the complex cross-cultural relationships that developed during Taiwan’s Japanese colonial era, particularly within the island’s emerging pineapple industry.
