An active volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean about 9 kilometers off Toucheng, Yilan, named for its resemblance to a turtle. Its fishing community, recorded since the Daoguang reign (道光) of the Qing dynasty, was relocated to the main island before the Ministry of National Defense (國防部) closed it in 1977 to emplace artillery and dig military tunnels. It reopened to visitors in 2000 as a marine ecological park within the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area (東北角暨宜蘭海岸國家風景區), with daily landings capped by permit.

I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there).
