This remote mountain village was the hideout of Bunun anti-Japanese resistance leader Dahu Ali (拉荷·阿雷) for 18 years. He was part of the Dahun Incident (大分事件), a major Bunun Indigenous uprising in 1915 against Japanese attempts to seize firearms from the Indigenous peoples of the mountains. After harassing the Japanese for nearly two decades he surrendered to the colonial authorities in 1933 and died of old age in 1943. The site is only accessible after a multi-day hike into the mountains.
