Lu Ayu (呂阿玉, 1929–2003) was a self-taught architect who played a significant role in shaping the built environment of post-war Taitung (台東). Born in Fengyuan, Taichung, Lu began his career as a technician in the Taitung County Government’s Construction Bureau, where he went on to design numerous government buildings, agricultural association buildings, and private structures that would come to define the region’s architectural character through his distinctive use of sunshades and hollow bricks.
