Established in 1913 as Toyota Ordinary and Higher Elementary School (豐田尋常高等小學校) for the children of Japanese immigrants. While the campus has been extensively renovated over the decades, the school auditorium (禮堂), originally a martial arts hall (劍道館), has survived largely intact. It was originally used as a kendo and judo training ground and a school assembly space. After the war it became the auditorium for Fengli Elementary School (豐裡國小), and from the 1960s through the 1980s it also served as a local banquet venue. The original roof tiles have been replaced with corrugated iron but the wooden roof structure remains intact. The campus was also home to a hōanden (奉安殿), a structure purpose-built to house photos of the emperor and empress as well as the imperial rescript on education, but this was presumably removed in the post-war era.
