Wàng’ān (望安), formerly known as Wǎng’àn (網垵) or Bāzhào (八罩), is a remote township of 19 islands in southern Penghu, six of which remain inhabited. The township’s most significant heritage site is Huazhai (花宅) in Zhongshe Village, one of Taiwan’s best-preserved traditional Han settlements and the first site nationally designated as an important settlement architecture group (重要聚落建築群) in 2010. Several of the township’s outer islands, including Xiji (西吉嶼), fall within the South Penghu Marine National Park (澎湖南方四島國家公園), Taiwan’s second marine national park, established in 2014. The Huayu Lighthouse (花嶼燈塔), built in 1939 on Huayu Island, is the westernmost lighthouse in Taiwan.
