Taiwan’s westernmost lighthouse, built by the Japanese in 1939 for military purposes on the highest point of Huayu Island. The 12.5-meter white concrete tower stands 64.6 meters above sea level. It ceased operations during World War 2 due to supply shortages and escaped damage. Now solar-powered and remotely monitored, no longer staffed. Open to visitors.
