Yamuliao Xing’an Temple

A Mazu temple in Yamuliao (鴨母寮), Neimen, completed in 1998 on the site of a Chen family ancestral hall after a plan for a memorial hall to Zhu Yigui (朱一貴) collapsed for want of artifacts and funding. Zhu was a duck farmer from this village who led the 1721 rebellion against Qing rule and briefly held Tainan as a self-proclaimed king. His image occupies the left side of the main hall with a small abacus hung at its chest, which the temple medium says can reckon a person’s prospects in office and in money. A cultural park laid out in front in 2009 encompasses the pond where Zhu is said to have raised his ducks, along with a statue funded in part by Zizhu Temple.
