A tank tunnel at Niujiaoling (牛角嶺) in Nangan, Matsu, enlarged by the army from a natural cave and completed in 1974 on the 88th birthday of Chiang Kai-shek, for whom it was named. Since 1992 the Matsu Distillery (馬祖酒廠) has used its 273 meters of granite passages, which hold steady at 15–20°C year round, to age kaoliang and other liquors in jars and vats.
