Xitou Zhulu (溪頭竹廬) - Spectral Codex
溪頭竹廬

A bamboo cottage in the Moso bamboo groves of Xitou Nature Education Area (溪頭自然教育園區) in Lugu, Nantou, designed by architect Chen Mai (陳邁) and commissioned in 1973 after Chiang Kai-shek expressed a wish to live among the bamboo. Built on a steel-reinforced frame clad entirely in Moso bamboo, the cottage was not completed until 1976, a year after CKS’s death. Chiang Ching-kuo visited frequently but his security detail never allowed him to sleep there. The painter Zhang Daqian (張大千) once painted here. It remains closed to the general public and is used to receive VIP guests.
