A bronze statue of water engineer Torii Nobuhei (鳥居信平, 1883—1946), located in Xilefafa Forest Park (喜樂發發吾森林公園). Sculpted by Chi Mei Group founder Xu Wen-long (許文龍) and unveiled in 2009, the statue honours Torii’s role in constructing the Erfeng Canal (二峰圳), a groundwater collection system completed in 1923 that used subsurface infiltration galleries to irrigate over 3,000 hectares of farmland across the Pingtung plains. Torii collaborated with Paiwan leaders of the Tjalja’avus (加拉阿夫斯) community to build the canal and planted a covenant tree with them upon its completion.
