A Spanish fortress built on Heping Island starting in 1626, serving as the colonial seat of power in northern Taiwan. The fort featured four circular bastions and a 400-meter perimeter. After the Dutch captured it in 1642, they rebuilt it as Fort Noord Holland, which was destroyed in 1668 during their retreat from Zheng Jing’s forces. World War 2 bombing and post-war shipyard construction erased all surface traces; ongoing archaeological work seeking to locate subterranean remains is limited while the shipyard remains.
