A black brick lighthouse standing on the tiny garrison island of Dongding south of Kinmen, lit in 1871 as the first Western-style lighthouse commissioned by the Qing Imperial Maritime Customs Service in Xiamen Bay. Damaged during the 1958 cross-strait artillery bombardment and dark from 1953 until 1971, the lighthouse remains under continuous military restriction with no civilian access.
