Hsinchu Tamsui Old Port Customs Office

Established in 1896, this was a customs office with adjoining warehouse space at Old Port (舊港), one of eight special entry and exit ports licensed for the junk trade with China during the early Japanese colonial era. Storms in 1911 and 1912 silted up the river mouth and the port was not very busy for long, with the office finally shutting down in 1932. The brick building was later repurposed for use as a residence and much altered inside but is in surprisingly decent condition, all things considered.
