Originally this was the location of Karayama Shinto Shrine (加羅山社), also known as Taipingshan Shinto Shrine (太平山神社), completed in 1936 or 1937 as the second-generation shrine in this area. In the post-war era it was converted into a temple venerating the pirate-king Koxinga (鄭成功) and later renovated to its present appearance in 1987. It is currently the highest temple in Yilan County at 1950 meters above sea level.
