Dynasty Theater opened in 1991 as a first-run cinema in Datong before transitioning to a second-run a few years later. Renovations in 2012 improved conditions but business remained turbulent. It closed in May 2020 for what was announced as a temporary closure for renovations during the COVID-19 pandemic, but never reopened. The operators formally announced its closure in January 2023, citing the pandemic and issues with the lease. The former theater was later renovated into a KTV and branch of World Gym.
