Founded in 1913 as the Government Vegetables Market between Ferry Street, Waterloo Road, and Reclamation Street, the complex absorbed fish traders in the 1930s before consolidating as a specialist fruit market in 1965. Low brick and stone blocks retain pre-war painted signboards on the outer walls and were listed as a Grade II historic building in 2009. Wholesalers still trade in the pre-dawn hours, lorries and handcarts shuttling stock past the adjacent Yau Ma Tei Theatre.
