A recently recognized section of the Tuniu Line (土牛紅線), instituted in the early 18th century to demarcate a boundary between Qing-administered Taiwan and the Indigenous lands beyond. Initially this border was marked by stones, but extensive ditches were eventually dug, among which this is reputedly the most well-preserved.
