Established in 1922, this coal mine is a contender for the title of the earliest seabed mining operation in Taiwan. Chen Ming (陳明), later the district chief of Wanli, acquired the mine in 1932. It operated until the late 1960s and was abandoned soon thereafter. Few traces of the original facilities remain today apart from some broken-down brick buildings scattered around the former site, which is now a vegetable garden, and on the hillside behind.
