Established in 1936 as part of the monopoly bureau in Japanese colonial times. It continually expanded after the war, becoming the largest tobacco processing facility in the country. Closed in 2002 due to Taiwan’s accession to the WTO. Now operating as Pingtung 1936 Tobacco Culture Base (屏菸1936文化基地).
