Remnants of a jinjō kōtō shōgakkō (尋常高等小學校), a combined ordinary and higher elementary school for ethnic Japanese, established in 1909 and one of two such schools in the Nantou area (the other being in neighboring Caotun). After the war the school was abolished and the site became Nantou Junior High School (南投初級中學); the grounds were later absorbed into the campus of Nantou Senior High School for staff and student dormitories. What survives are a pair of ornamental gate pillars with textured concrete finishes, stone steps, and a retaining wall. A century-old tree at the entrance fell during Typhoon Gaemi in July 2024, damaging the gate area and prompting calls for heritage protection.
