Anxi Elementary School Office and Auditorium (後壁安溪國小原辦公廳及禮堂) - Spectral Codex
後壁安溪國小原辦公廳及禮堂

Two timber buildings at Anxi Elementary School in Anxiliao (安溪寮), Houbi. The school was initially established in a borrowed Lin family ancestral hall in 1914 and has since replaced all its other wooden classrooms with concrete. Both designated structures date to the post-war period; the office hall of 1953 and the auditorium of 1955, built in a Japanese colonial idiom largely because timber was then easier to obtain than brick. Inscriptions on the office porch record its groundbreaking in 1952 under principal Wu Qinglin (吳慶麟), with ramps curving up beside the steps; both buildings were registered as historic buildings in 2004, and the auditorium still serves as assembly hall and gymnasium.
