A post-war brick and wood office building with a hip roof in Dongshi, Yunlin, still in use by the sugarcane procurement division of Huwei Sugar Factory. The colonial era “raw materials collection zone” system restricted where sugarcane could be processed, a structure that persists largely unchanged today. Inside, a large blackboard tracks annual sugarcane planting progress across planned, contracted, and actual acreage. Huwei remains one of only two operational sugar refineries in Taiwan as of the mid-2020s.
