Originally constructed in the 1950s as the residence of the commander of the United States Seventh Fleet. Around 1968 it became the official residence of Chiang Ching-kuo (蔣經國), initially in his capacity as Minister of National Defense, and later as premier and then president of the Republic of China. After a long period of idleness it officially opened to the public in 2022 as Ching-Kuo Chi-Hai Cultural Park (經國七海文化園區).
