Originally established as the Taichung Prefectural No. 2 High School (臺中州立臺中第二中學校) in 1927. In 1937 an agricultural school was founded on the south side of campus. In 1946 the entire campus was allocated for use as a vocational high school dedicated to agriculture. It is a rare example of colonial school buildings in Taichung built with red brick.
