西勢山隧道

A disused logging road tunnel deep in the mountains of Tai’an, located around the 40 kilometer mark of Xishishan Forest Road (西勢山林道), formerly Forest Road 230 of the Daxueshan (大雪山) logging area. No record of its construction has surfaced; it is absent from maps published in 1966 but appears by 1985, so it was most likely bored in the 1970s as the road was extended toward the upper Da’an River (大安溪) watershed. Washouts have long since severed the road, and the tunnel can now only be reached on foot over several days.
