A POW camp opened in September 1942 in warehouses by the harbour in Qianzhen, holding prisoners in transit to Japan and putting them to work as stevedores. No records survive and little is known of conditions here. From late 1944 the camp took in men pulled from the hell ships running between the Philippines and Japan, the largest contingent off the Hofuku Maru; most were moved on to Fukuoka in January 1945 and the camp closed the following month.
