Built around 1811, this was one of the four gates protecting the majority Hakka settlement from conflicts between Hakka, Hoklo, and Taiwanese Indigenous peoples. It features symmetrical circular gun ports and the characters praising loyalty (褒忠), a reference to local Hakka militias and their contributions to suppressing rebellions in the Qing dynasty era. A small section of the original city walls also remain in the vicinity.
