Founded in 1969 after Qiu Qiongying (邱瓊英) and his wife Qiu Helixiang (邱何麗香) enjoyed success with the nearby Shangwu Open-Air Theater (尚武露天戲院). This was a more permanent structure built to accommodate around 300 audience members for film screenings and special events.
